Curriculum Vitae of Failures

A record of wrong turns, closed doors, and experiments that didn’t land—but shaped everything that did.

1. Professional Opportunities that Passed Me By

Rejected proposals, ignored blueprints, or offers that fizzled

• 2022–2024 — Multiple internal transformation concepts at COSMO stalled or were quietly archived. Each one taught me that even good ideas need timing, allies, and patient storytelling.
• 2021 — Declined a return to management despite repeated requests. It looked like a failure in ambition; it was an act of self-preservation.
• 2022 & 2024 — Applied for a full-time Head Coach role; position went to someone with “more experience.” Later realized I preferred teaching coaches over managing them.

2. Projects That Never Reached the Finish Line

Unfinished or quietly shelved work

• “Game Ecology Handbook” — outlined in 2023, never written. I discovered I loved field notes more than textbooks.
• AI Coaching Companion — technical prototype worked; adoption failed. The lesson: automation can’t replace relationships.
• Flag Football Masterclass Series — filmed three episodes, released none. Perfectionism outpaced momentum.

3. Writing and Publishing Misfires

Posts that didn’t resonate—or I wasn’t ready to write

• “Why Fundamentals Fail” (early draft) — too combative in tone. Taught me to trade argument for invitation.
• First Substack launch (2022) — audience size: 12. I learned consistency matters more than launch days.
• LinkedIn experiments — brilliant analytics, hollow connection. Realized I write better for minds that linger, not scroll.

4. Coaching Experiments Gone Sideways

Sessions, teams, or methods that didn’t click

• U13 “Decision Grid” practice (2020): kids hated it. I’d designed for cognitive challenge, not joy.
• Teen assistant program (early version): autonomy turned into chaos. I learned that freedom without rituals becomes noise.
• State-team tryouts & camps (2024): over-structured, under-felt. Athletes performed, but no one connected.
• State-team competition (2024): team stalled mid-tournament, I saw why clearly and did not do enough about it. 

5. Personal and Emotional Failures

Moments where ideals outran capacity

• Said yes to too many projects. Result: exhaustion disguised as dedication.
• Tried to be the steady giver and forgot to receive (see: Challenges in Letting Love In).
• Missed small moments of gratitude from players because I was scanning for “depth.”
• Confused being indispensable with being loved.

6. Meta-Failures

Failures about how I handle failure

• Believed clarity alone could convince systems to change. It can’t; belonging does.
• Built several brilliant frameworks before building a sustainable way to share them.
• This CV of Failures will probably get more attention than any of my “successes.”

Closing Note

Failures aren’t opposite to success—they’re its compost.
Each one listed here became part of the soil for something alive: better teaching, softer ambition, clearer writing, truer love.
